Commonwealth Games and History
Commonwealth Games has started with a grand colourful programme. As you must have heard the name of Olympic Asian Games etc. But what is Commonwealth and why it got its name, that is, we will learn about its history. It is a multinational sports event in which many games are played simultaneously like Olympics. All the games played in it are also a part of Olympics. Along with this, Commonwealth Games also have some special games of their own. By the way, all the countries who also participate in Olympics take part in this game. It is organized once every four years. The control of this sports event is handled by Commonwealth Games. Commonwealth Games were started in 1930 in Hamilton city of Ontario, Canada. However, then the name of this sports event was British Empire Game. At that time 11 countries participated in it. 400 players from 19th to 20th century took part in it. Its name also changed several times but finally it is now known as Commonwealth Games. Though it is organised every four years, but it was not organised in 1942 and 1946. This is for the later Commonwealth Games.
Actually the Commonwealth countries were created by Britain. These are the countries which were once a part of the British colonial system. There are about 53 countries in it, although their number keeps increasing and decreasing. The purpose behind naming or creating Commonwealth countries, it is to promote democracy, literacy, human rights, better administration, overall trade and world peace.
